Why I did not get an iPhone

OK, my Treo 755p does everything the iPhone can do, but it is just not as sexy as an iPhone. In fact, right now, it does a lot more (WAY more applications for now), but lets set that aside for now, and assume the iPhone can do as much or more. (I get my GPS through a cheap bluetooth puck)

For $69.99/month on Sprint, I get 700 shared minutes with my wife’s cell phone, and no additional charge for her phone. For $10/month more, I get unlimited EVDO (high speed) data service on my phone, and for another additional $10/month, I get 1000 text messages/month. Total, $89/month

That same shared service on AT&T for ONE iPhone (only one, my wife would use some small, regular cell as she does not care) is $129. Plus another $30 for unlimited text messages ( I use about 750 per month, and the ONLY option on the family plan is unlimited or 20 cents per message, which would still be $15/month).

So moving to an iPhone would cost me $145 to $160/month, almost 80% more than the price of my plan with Sprint. And my Nights and Weekends free minutes on Sprint start at 7 PM during the week, no extra charge. AT&T’s start at 9 PM unless I want to pay even more to start them to 7 PM.

So, even for the small iPhone, it would cost me $199 plus an additional
$71/month more than I pay now for two years, or a little over $1900 to move to the iPhone on the higher side, or almost $1550 on the low side (for 700 text messages.)

Sorry, no phone is worth that, not even the iPhone. That iTouch is
starting to look better and better all the time.

Am I missing something here?
