Viral Infection

So yet another Windows vulnerability has been exploited and turned into a
virus infection. You probably have heard about it already, virus that can be
embedded into jpegs that exploits a vulnerability in the GDI driver in Windows.
I was just reading, someone has finally posted an exploit to Usenet. Easynews,
a premium Usenet provider, found the virus Sunday afternoon. With no surprise the infected jpgs are porn images. Hmm, I can see the parallelism 🙂

Situations like this that I always feel glad that I am using a Mac right now.
I do not have to spend countless hours trying to constantly protect my computer
from every new virus or vulnerability that gets discovered. Or trying to fix
my computer that fell victim to a vulnerability. You may not aware of it, but
I only been using a Mac for less than a year. (Well, actually I did used an
Apple Computer in school, but that was during the era when “IBM compatible
PC” was not even phrase then). It was a hand me down G4 Powerbook when my supervisor
“upgraded” his own machine to the 17 inch Powerbook model.

I guess you will not be surprise if I say that it was an easy transition.
Moving from a windows based interface to OS X is not as confusingly painful
as when I moved from Win 2K to Win XP. The bit of familiarity with Linux did
help too.

The best advice I ever heard that formed the seed of me switching is : “The
Windows OS engine was never meant to be a networked
“.

If you think about it, all these trouble that OS has experiencing is because
of the above statement

Going back to the virus. If you are interested to read about it and how Easynews
found and tackled it, here is

Sometimes I think all these effort of finding vulnerabilities and creating
viruses, etc are motivated so that all these anti virus and security “experts”
will always have jobs. Just think about it, who benefits the most whenever
somethings needs to get fixed in Windows OS or when another trojan or worm
is creating havoc around the world.

Found in the Internet :

The company that sells this calls it “The Boyfriend Arm Pillow”. The idea
is it comforts and cuddles you on those times when your partner/other half/whatever
is away and you fear that you might suffer from separation anxiety. But the
way they describe it, I am not quite sure they are getting the right words
out there

“The Boyfriend’s Arm Pillow consists of a headless torso and a
stuffed arm that curls around the sleeper.”

Sounds more like it is trying to scare than to comfort. Check it out
