Sniff? Sniff’¦sniff?
What’s that I smell? Why, what else could it be but new MacBook Pros!
Specs are as follows:
2.4 to 2.6 GHz Intel Core3Duo
2 to 4 GB of Ram
Up to 512Mb of video ram with a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics card
FireWire 400 and 800 ports
3 USB 2 ports
Up to a 250GB hard drive
Built-in webcam, Ethernet yadda yadda yadda.
In other words, pretty much the same MacBook Pro you could have bought yesterday, just a little faster. I guess the big update for it is that it now has the Multi-Touch Trackpad with the Touch interface. So now you can squeeze and scroll and all those other things that Apple is coming out with that is Touch capable. Same price range as before. Of course it sucks if you just bought a new MacBook Pro but if you got it less than 14 days ago you might be able to return it and get the new one. Your mileage may vary.
MacBooks got a speed bump too. No Multi-Touch interface though.
The exciting news for me though was that all the refurbs got a big price drop as well. You can get (probably not for much longer) a 2.16 GHz Core2Duo MacBook Pro for $1299. Yes, $1299. I’ve gone ahead and totally ticked off my wife by ordering a refurb 2.33 GHz MacBook Pro for $1499. It has a faster processor, twice the system ram (2Gb as compared to 1Gb), and more video ram (256Mb as compared to 128Mb). That was worth the extra $200 in my opinion. Fortunately this has been a mild winter here on the east coast so sleeping in the dog house won’t be nearly as bad and since I have an Airport Extreme with 802.11n, I should still have internet access. Hmmm, maybe I should have got a Slanket as well.
