Thoughts on the Mac Mini

The first words that came to mind: About Time!

I have a brother-in-law who is a hard-core PC guy. He is by no means anti-Mac. Not at all. In fact, he has wanted a Mac for years, to learn OS X and more about the Macintosh platform in general. He actually does have a first generation iMac (233MHz G3), which he is not impressed with at all. (It is six years old now!)

His main reason for not buying a new Mac? They are too expensive, even the $999 eMac. Besides, he wanted one that he can use his monitor with. So the Mac Mini is perfect for him, priced at $499 and a super-small form factor.

Speaking as someone not at the expo, I am super impressed with what I have seen online so far. I want to hold one, though, to get a true impression of how tiny this thing is.

Yeah, it is slow running a G4, but for the people who would most be interested in this, I think it is fine. Especially at $499. It really is a G4 PowerBook, without the screen or keyboard. It is attractive as heck, too!

The last thing I need is another computer (I have four that I use on a daily basis as is) but BOY do I want one of these! And is this a Modders Dream Machine or what?
