The Tour Day 16

Today was a good day not to get up at six friggin’ thirty to watch the race and wait for the rerun later in the day, but of course, I didn’t. If the Alps weren’t looming in two days one might have thought today was the run in to Paris. There was no action at all from the peloton when ten riders broke away early in the race, as there were no contenders for yellow in the group. In fact, the riders in the peloton were taking it easy, laughing and joking with one another.

Aitor Gonzales of Fassa Bortolo won the stage, giving Fassa Bortolo their third stage win of the Tour. Impressive, considering their star sprinter, Alessandro Petacchi retired days ago. Robbie McEwen came out of nowhere to sprint the peloton for the “best of the rest” points. Voeckler is still in yellow. There was no change in the GC. There were no crashes or abandons in today’s race and all the remaining riders started.

The Velo News website has been down all day so if you click any of their links in previous posts the link is good when the website comes back up.

Did anyone catch the Greg Le Mond interview on ESPN this morning? Me either. I guess if he has real proof he can spout on but until then I’m still writing him off as sour grapes.

Tomorrow is a rest day. Tuesday the race heads into the Alps. Two individual time trials are coming up, one on Wednesday, the other on Saturday.

Today’s “Meow Corner” feature is this article found at procycling.

Today’s Tune to the Tour contest word is “Break Away”.

CKS/bl Tridiot Rating 127.229 plus the 5% penalty. Hey, penalty phase ends Tuesday!
