Have you tried the free streaming video ABC is offering of several television series? I have, and I was pleasantly surprised.
The quality is pretty good. It isn’t HDTV, but it works for me. I’d gladly use this option to watch an episode of LOST or ALIAS that I might have missed, instead of paying to watch it in iTunes.
What about those commercials that you can’t skip over? Not a big deal. You can even skip to the commercial breaks at the beginning. Get them out of the way, and then watch the episode straight through.
Load time was suprisingly quick, too. Once the show started it kept on going. I didn’t experience and pauses while the video loaded. The only time I had to wait for loading was when I skipped around in an episode. Keep in mind this is on a DSL connection. I would imagine a dial-up connection would have problems.
My only complaint, so far, is that the picture cannot be resized. It would be nice if you could make the picture full screen.
I’m not saying that I plan on watching this on a regular basis. I don’t even plan on watching it if I miss an epsiode. Hopefully, I’ll know in advance and tape it. However, if I did forget to tape it, this is a nice, and free, backup option. Kind of like a security blanket.
