The new iTunes Complete My Album feature

If you haven’t heard already, Apple introduced “Complete My Album” to iTunes today. If I understand it correctly, you can purchase the rest of an album you’ve already bought singles from for less money than it would be to buy the remaining singles. This is for eligible albums and for a limited time after the initial purchase (up to 6 months).

This sounds great, but…

1. If I wanted the other singles in the album I would have bought them the first time.

2. What makes an album eligible?

3. Here’s my biggest question. If I buy a new single from an album that has not come out yet, will I get credit for that single? This is what I want this feature for. I rarely buy these types of singles because I don’t want to rebuy it when the complete album is released.

For example, Rush has a single called “Far Cry” that is for sale and part of an album coming in May. If I buy this single, will I get a $1 credit towards the entire album in May? iTunes considers singles like this to be “Albums,” and technically I would be buying the entire “Album.”

This feature will probably save a lot of people some money, but for now I’ll pass.
