John:
The device I was telling you about is called the “Hitch” a USB transfer device. I got it at Greg’s Camera for about $80.00. The website is http://www.gethitch.com.
Essentially, you plug in the adapter to charge the battery which does not take long. Alternatively you can just plug it in, wait a few minutes and use the device plugged in.
You plug in the USB cord from your camera to the Hitch, then the USB plug to whatever device you want to save information or photos onto, such as an IPOD or memory stick, (Hitch mode). The IPOD saves the information or photos as an external hard drive, so you eventually have to download to a computer to view the files, as you would with the memory stick.
It also has the capability of copying music from one media player to another, including IPODS, (Music mode). There is a dial and buttons similar to an IPOD to choose functions.
Once you figure out how to use a Hitch, and realize that if you transfer data to an IPOD you will not see the photos on the IPOD screen, it is very easy to use. The Hitch screen displays the progress of the file transfer and lets you know when it is done.
It is a great device if you want to transfer files or photos and don’t want to or can’t bring a computer with you. And it is the size of an 80GB IPOD!
