Sonic on your iPod?

First there were simple games on the iPod like Brick and Solitaire.

Then Apple started selling more complex games like Tetris and Pac-Man. These games were more complex, but easy to control with the click wheel.

As time went on more complex games like Pool and Bowling were released. There is even Lost game. The controls are still understandable and easy to use.

Even Phase, the Guitar Hero style game, is easy to play. I’ve played it, and it is actually fun.

This morning Sonic The Hedgehog was released on the iPod. From the Preview it looks like the real deal, not a mini game for the iPod. I don’t know how the controls are, but a game like Sonic seems like the controls would be a little tricky on the iPod.

Anyway, up until Sonic, the games were more like mini games, with simple controls. They were what I considered something to pass the time on a long car ride, or a plane ride. Fun, but nothing too engaging. To me, Sonic, even an older version, does not fall into that category.

Sonic is more “real.” If that makes any sense. Kids have spent hours playing Sonic the Hedgehog games. Is Sonic the start of more “real” games on the iPod? Are shooten-up games around the corner? Is Mario next?

I’ve always said Tiger Wood’s Golf would be good with the iPod click-wheel. I’m still waiting for that one.

Does this make gaming on the iPod more legit?

I don’t know, but it is nice to see some “real” games make there way to the iPod. What do you think?

As a side note: A game called Peggle was also released today. I don’t plan on buying Sonic, but Peggle looks interesting. I’ll have to read more about it when a description is posted.
