My wife hates to clean, and she REALLY hates to sweep or vacuum the floor. Vacuum cleaners and electric sweepers are loud, heavy, smelly, and annoying, so I clean our tile floor and area rugs using a combination of broom with dustpan, full-size vacuum cleaner, and long-strand twist mop.
Barbara prefers the alternative, as will many of you lazy techies. Shark’s Cordless VX3 new flexible sweeper is true to its promotional material:
• Lightweight and maneuverable swivel steering (It’s a bit wobbly, and takes some getting used to, but it works nicely.)
• Cordless-Go-Anywhere design (True.)
• Convenient to use bottom-emptying dust tray (It’s a little dusty, but it does work.)
• Up to 90 minutes of run time (Who can clean a floor for 90 minutes? For short sessions, it’s fine, and the battery holds a nice charge.)
You can read and learn more than you never wanted to know about this Shark at the company’s web site.
During the last several weeks, VX3 has been in active duty by both Barbara and me. Her comments are:
“It’s easy to push. Weight is very light, but that’s on purpose. It picks up most dust bunnies, but it could be a little more efficient. The Shark gets dirt better on the tile floor than on our loose carpets and rugs. I understand that VX3 is a sweeper, not a vacuum, so it uses a motorized brush and turning action instead of suction to collect debris.
“The noise is not bad. Handle height and feel are okay. I’m not sure the twisting and folding handle features are improvements over our original Shark from several years ago. I’m still getting used to this new handle arrangement.
“Tell your readers this is a lazy person’s broom, for people who don’t want to use a broom and dustpan, and don’t need more than a light duty sweeper. I wish it ran by itself, without me having to take it out of the closet and push it around, but that’s not the fault of Shark.”
I’ll add:
The dark pink color is a little peculiar. Assembling, charging and using VX3 are very easy. Follow the written or online instructions, and you’ll get optimum usage out of this lightweight, portable cleaner. The company web site has a PDF of the manual, plus a useful FAQ sheet. The entire unit is modular, so each component of it is replaceable.
My aunt purchased two of the original cordless Sharks at a retail store, and she continues to use them, with replacement batteries, several years later. My daughter hates to clean as much as does my wife, so we gave her an original Shark which she continues to use as infrequently as possible in her apartment. The batteries wear down before the unit falls apart, so keep that in mind.
VX3’s value for money is fine. Follow the charging and usage instructions, and it will keep your floors reasonably clean with very little effort or stress.
