RapidoSMTP Sucks!

When I got home, I discovered that several important clients using Earthlink for their ISP had emails sent from “macbook.local” blocked. Additionally, my brother in Austin (on a Roadrunner account) never got my messages. Evidently spammers have caused several major ISPs to essentially cripple this otherwise fabulous feature of OS X, activated through the RapidoSMTP freeware app.

Bah!

A number of people have suggested using Google’s SMTP servers. Well folks, I’m waiting for a short, easy way to do that. The procedure outlined at the Google site seems unreasonably complicated. I don’t want to receive Google (Gmail) messages, I just want to be able to send emails from any location.

Ideas?
