Postcard from Tucson Folk Festival

Her playing and her instrument caught my ears and eyes. Away from the many official performance areas, she was playing in a shady corner, with a pickup group that was jamming on old mountain fiddle tunes: guitar, mandolin, violin, musical saw, and her five-string homemade box violin. There is more to the story, but let’s have her photo speak for itself, and for her.

The free Tucson Folk Festival takes place this time every year. For a two-horse, one stoplight town of half a million people, the festival is an amazing event.
