(sorry, I seem to be blogging in pairs lately…)
Last week I blogged about the fact that Monday Night Football has essentially moved to Sunday, with the Monday Night announcer crew moving to the Sunday Night Football game. But now it’s gotten a little weirder.
Scheduled for tonight at 7pm on ESPN is a show called “Monday Night Countdown,” followed by preseason game which I can only assume is a “Monday Night Football” game. Last I checked, today is Friday. What are they counting down, the seventy-two hours until it’s actually Monday?
It’s as if the various days of the week have become brand names unto themselves, and those brand names are no longer necessarily associated with the day of the week for which they’re named. What next, celebrating famous people’s birthdays on the nearest Monday, or having the Fourth of July race at Daytona on the nearest Sunday? Wait a minute…
Actually, this newfound ambiguousness toward the days of the week could work in my favor, since I never seem to know what day of the week it is anyway. Until I checked iCal just now, I thought today was Monday.
Now excuse me, while I go and hurry up and make plans for the upcoming weekend I didn’t know was upon us. I’d bettery hurry, since it’ll apparently be Monday again at 7pm today.
