Given all the rumors floating around about Apple mythical “Netbook”, Reuters has added fuel to this fire by reporting that Apple has put in orders for 10″ touch screens from a Taiwan manufacturer.
Reuters quoted an “unnamed” source, saying that “Apple will take third-quarter delivery of newly developed 10-inch touchscreens from Taiwan…” The source asked not to be named because “he was not authorized to talk to the media”, so take this for what it is worth, but if true, what exactly could Apple be building here? Reuters makes no speculation as to the final product.
Nor can I speculate on the final product, but use your imagination and their are several products that could be made from these small screens: The often asked for “Netbook”, a large iPod Touch with a better screen for movies, a dedicated movie/TV player, a new sub-compact notebook with touch screen…??? The possibilities are many, and I have no idea either.
That said, given all the comments from Steve Jobs and Tim Cook in the past few years about Netbooks, my money is on an Apple branded Netbook in the future. Time will tell….
