Last week, Valleywag reported that Apple laid off about 50 salespeople. Then, Apple spokesperson Steve Dowling said it did not happen. THEN, a tipster from inside Apple’s Sales organization reported to Valleywag that they did happen after all. (See Networkworld.) Then, reported in CNET, Apple said again that they did not happen, and flat out denies that there were any layoffs. Seriously people?
What really happened? Hard to tell from all these rumors and supposed reports, but this ping-pong game of did/did-not is most amusing to watch.
But the net is buzzing again with even more rumors supposedly coming from the leaky Apple HQ that even more layoffs may be coming, this time from hardware and software teams. True?
Eric Savitz of Barron’s Tech Trader Daily , is not buying it, saying Apple is not having major layoffs. “If employees in California were involved, Apple would have to file a state notification under the WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) rules.” According to those rules, if more than 500 employees are going to loose their job, Apple needs to file a report. Eric says no such report has been filed.
But this does not mean Apple could do small trims much like Google recently did, which did not require such a filing.
Keep your eyes and ears open on this one people. A Google search of “Apple Layoffs” is returning almost more responses than a Jessica Simpson scandal, so it is sure to get interesting.
More when I laugh at it!
