That’s right, four and a half hours.
It was only a few months ago that the original Apple battery finally stopped holding any charge at all. Well, a little: about three minutes worth. This meant I had to drag the power adapter around with me and plug in everywhere I went with the TiBook. Kind of a drag, especially since I’d outfitted the old ‘Book with a fabulous Buffalo Technologies wireless card. And not long ago I actually got my foot caught in the cord and very nearly pulled the machine off the table. Had to do physical therapy on the bent end of the cord afterwards. Damn near broke everything.
So after weeks of idiotic cheapness and money-fear, I finally went to OWC and looked at the Newer Technology replacement batteries. Hmm. Too expensive, so I researched a few more days. Hmm. Not so expensive after all! The long and the short of is that I went back to OWC and popped for the $149, 74 watt-hour extended life battery.
Boy howdy. Now this was interesting. I followed the instructions to the letter, letting it charge for 12 straight hours, and then started her up. Wow. When I let the TiBook run the battery down to calibrate it, the only trouble was how long it took: a little over 4 hours and 30 minutes.
That’s actual clock time, and no fluke, either. Right now I’ve been on battery power for an hour and 40 minutes, screen at almost full brightness, and the time remaining is two hours and 50 minutes. I have no doubt it would keep going for almost thrree more hours, either. So if you’re suffering with an old battery, give the fancy replacement a try.
This one makes me feel like I have tons of money in the bank or a fresh cord of piñon.
