Keynote Goodies from Macworld Expo!

[Note: for the latest news, go here!.]

Time Capsule is an AirPort Extreme plus a 500 GB hard drive for only $299. The press release isn’t up, and all the “liveblogging” sites are so jammed, I can’t get all the info yet, but if this is a functioning base station as well as a backup drive, I know someone with a brand-new 500 GB hard drive who’ll be sending it back. So what do you do with this? It backs up all the Macs on your network wirelessly!

There’s a ton of news about renting movies and watching TV. That will have to wait for others, as yours truly never rents movies or watches TV. But there’s a new, thin MacBook Air! Yup, .76 to .16 inches thin! Weighs three pounds. As usual, Apple isn’t posting the details until the speech is over. If you’re anxious to read the official press releases, here’s the link — keep checking, all will be revealed shortly. My reaction to all the “thin” business has always been puzzled: who really needs a laptop that tapers down to less than a quarter of an inch? Well, maybe you do.

More details: 13.3 inch screen, full-sized backlit keyboard. Multitouch trackpad, 80 GB hard drive standard, special new small-sized Intel chip. And there’s a feature that lets you install software from any computer on your network.

Hmm. This reporter isn’t able to access any of the liveblogging sites (other than our own, and thank you, Roger!), so more news will have to wait until the excitement dies down. I’d say the clogged servers all over the Internet are evidence enough that Apple is generating enormous interest in its products.

Are we at the “one more thing” place yet?
