I’m always looking for ways to spruce up my smart playlists in iTunes. Since jazz is my most listened to music, I thought I’d see how many different ways I could create jazz-based smart playlists to get at a variety of songs.
Unheard Cuts
Since I had to reinstall all my music into iTunes back in January, I’ve been re-rating cuts that I like. So this first smart playlists simply plays all the cuts I haven’t played once since reinstalling. My rating is simple. O for reject and 5 for favorites. All songs get rated 3 after I import them. So it’s just a matter of rating up or down as I listen.
Favorite Jazz
An easy must have playlist.
Long Cuts
These are those those long heavy cuts that play with your mind.
Most Recently Added
Smash Hit
That one cut that I seem to keep playing and replaying. I wonder when it will lose favor.
Best of Mile Davis
These “best of” lists come in handy for when you want to sort out your favorites from an artist with lots to offer.
Soul Jazz
Maybe one day I’ll get around to categorizing the type of jazz I have according kind, period, or style. Wish iTunes could do that for me.
