Is Adobe biting off more than it can chew with Media Player?

Adobe just released their Adobe Media Player and with it they have tossed their hat into the ring of online content providers. Not only can you watch Adobe content through the player, but their is content from CBS, MTV, Comedy Central, and more.

Personally, I think a media player from Adobe which is one-stop shopping for Adobe podcasts, tutorials, and more is a great idea. My question is why do they see the need for all of the other stuff? I would assume the answer is money, but Adobe and TV shows don’t seem to mix.

Adobe is the company the creates fantastic graphic programs like Photoshop and Illustrator, they don’t provide media players to watch Survivor in.

I just wonder if they are stretching themselves thin, and losing focus by doing this. Only time will tell.

I haven’t tried it yet, just installed it and looked through the offerings. There is a nice catalog of content. I’m looking forward to watching some MacGyver episodes.

Of course, that is probably what people said about Apple when they opened the iTunes Store and we know how that went. Can we say #1 music store in the U.S.?
