iPhone Scams have started

According to the web site “ScamBusters.org” the iPhone scams are already well underway.

eBay scams: There are now over 11 thousand products listed on eBay on a search for “iPhone.” eBay is taking iPhone scams very seriously.

According to CNN, “about 2,000 eBay security representatives are scheduled to be on the lookout this weekend for iPhone scams. But Cat Schwartz, the eBay executive in charge of electronic gadgets, acknowledged that she can’t do much about ill-fitting accessories.”

According to TechBlog.com, “the.iphone.from.apple at gmail.com actually sold for a whopping $112.50 on eBay,” which they describe as “the worst iPhone email address ever.”

eBay reports that iPhones were on sale a good two days before the launch. I found one listing showing 4 phones. The guy basically said he had 4 people in line, and would sell them for $1995 each on eBay after he got them. You had to pay in advance! Yea, right, I would send this guy $2000!

A search of eBay revealed thousands of “iPhone” email and web addresses for sale. Why people would bid on these is beyond me, but some WERE getting bids. What is wrong with people? Both on the buying and selling side here!

There were MANY offers on eBay and Craig’s list selling places in line. As expected, many were scams, and after paying, people did not find the person or their place in line. Gee, now there is a surprise.

There are already reports of people buying an iPhone from scalpers, only to find the box contains a rock or piece of wood, and the phone is removed. If you must pay a scalper, which I see no reason to do, maybe you should open the box and look at the device before you hand over your money.

And yes, the “free iPhone” deals are already showing up online. I received two in the mail already. Perhaps some of these are legit, much like the free iMac deal was, but it is expected that most are fake. Use caution here.

And do not get me started on the iPhone spam which has started big time. I started getting them 2 weeks ago. I for one have added “iphone” to my filter list already.

Speaking of spam, just how long will we have to put up with iPhone users talking really loudly so we will all seem them talking on their iPhone? 2 people on BART already. Please, give me a break!
