iPhone App is entertaining without even running it!

The number one free app in the iTunes store right now is called “Mirror Free.” It sits at the top of the top 25 free apps list today (Friday, July 17th, 2009), and is one of the most amusing things I have seen in a long time. Oh, I do not mean the app itself which I have yet to even launch as it truly IS silly and useless, but rather the ranting going on for people who have downloaded it and are pissed about it. That is all too funny.

The description of this app reads exactly as follows:

———

Dudes… Chill.

We know this app is a piece of cr@p.

Someone was charging $0.99 for a mirror app like this, we thought it was unfair.

Don’t hate us for this stupid app. Love us for saving you $.99

Honestly, don’t download this. It is just a blank screen with a frame.

If you must download this t**d, please do it with a sense of humor.

———

It goes on more to describe that this is a free app that turns the screen black, and puts a picture frame around the black screen, so you can use your phone or touch as a “mirror” and have a cool frame around your face.

But they do say it is crap, they do tell you not to download it, and they give it away free. They say “Mirror Free is a simple, free, joke app for entertainment.”

What more do you really need to know before NOT hitting Install?

So where is the entertainment value? As I said, not the app, but rather simply click on the reviews section for this app and start reading. It is incredibly funny and amusing to me that so many people are livid about this being a stupid, dumb app. Some are vicious, some are pissed, and others outraged. The rants are priceless. And remember, to review the app, you had to have download it first.

It has received over 42,000 one star reviews, and has some of the most vitriolic comments I have ever read, especially for a free app.

Come on people, they told you it was crap, it said not to download it, and you download it anyway. OK, so you are either curious or stupid. Fine. You download it, open it, and it is EXACTLY as advertised. It is a silly joke of an app that does nothing. Were you really expecting a new camera to pop out the front of your iPhone or touch and take your picture? Exactly what were you expecting it to do?

But then these same people continue to prove that they are not curious, but rather stupid, as they spend the next 5 minutes ranting about how bad and dumb the app is. Hello?

And to make matters worse, these same people prove their lack of intelligence by misspelling even the simplest of words in their reviews as they rant on and on. My favorite typo so far, seen in several reviews: “back round” for background.

OK, to be fair, I have rated some apps low, and put in comments to the effect that people should save their money and look elsewhere. But that is for paid apps that do not work as advertised. This was free, and is exactly as advertised. What more should one expect?

Are these the same people who fight their way to buy a “Bag of Crap” from Woot (www.woot.com)and then complain in the forum that they received a bag of lousy, worthless stuff? The website says do not buy it, it warns you at least 5 times that the are going to send you crappy things laying around the warehouse, yet people love to fight to get one, and then complain when they get what they ordered.

Seriously people, if the app says it is crap and not to download it, don’t. And if you do, at least offer the person 5 stars for being honest about what you would get. But give us a break with all the whining and complaining over free apps. You got what you paid for!

I gave it 5 stars, and rated it high because it was amusing, exactly as described, and I continue to chuckle as I read the new ranting reviews showing up by the hour.
