So I updated my iPhone to version 1.1.1 today. After the update downloaded and installed on my iPhone, iTunes no longer had any love for it. After prompting me to click the Restore button, I did so. The restore failed, and iTunes refused to sync with the iPhone. GASP!
A reboot worked. At least initially. After leaving with the iPhone to record this weeks podcast, I came home and plugged the iPhone back into its dock. The error message returned, and iTunes again refused to sync it. Another prompt to Restore the iPhone, and that failed as well.
I do not want to have to reboot my G5 every time I need to sync my iPhone. There has to be a simple solution, right? It’s not like I have hacked my iPhone.
My solution was simple: rather than plugging my iPhone dock into my USB 2.0 six-port hub, I plugged it directly into the Macintosh. And that worked!
So if you have your iPhone plugged into an external USB hub, and you are having problems with iTunes playing nice with it, try going directly to the Mac. It worked for me, and it may work for you.
Of course, this is not an ideal solution, as USB plugs are in short supply on my Mac. (That’s why I have a USB hub in the first place.) Still, until I can figure out a better fix, or Apple fixes this in the next update, at least I can get it working.
