I got a phone call tonight from my credit card company asking if I made a $3000 purchase at an online cosmetic retailer. Well, I did not make the purchase, and I never heard of the place.
The scary thing is that the credit card that was charged has never left my house, and I only use it for online purchases. Nothing else.
I have no idea how this person got my credit card number.
Of course, that account is now cancelled, and I spent the night checking the few credit cards I have for similar purchases, and cancelling those accounts. Luckily, nothing else seems to have been purchased.
Shopping on the internet has become second nature.
Will I give up on internet shopping? No, but I might do less of it for a little while.
The one nice thing, if there can be a nice thing, is that my credit card company (Chase Bank) was on the ball enough to catch the unauthorized charge.
You see stories about these things happening all the time, but it is one of those things that you never expect to happen to you.
Well, add my name to the list….
