I Want to Switch!

Today I got an email from a MyMac reader who is interested in switching from PC to a Mac, here are the questions and answers:

Q- Any issues regarding the document compatibility since I am going to
use this in corporate environment.

A- No issues there, a Mac has MS office that includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
and Entourage (Outlook), plus anything a PC does, the Mac can do
better.

Q- Is there any program of which there is no alternative in Mac which
is generally used in our daily routine.

A- I have never heard from any (Switcher) about such a complain,
everything you get on the PC you will find on the Mac, and in some
cases they will be freeware on the Mac, I was a heavy Windows user, and I
switched to the Mac 3 years ago, I am not missing anything, actually I
am gaining more knowledge.

Q- I want to connect this machine to our company exchange server, is
this possible?

A- Of course, a Mac can connect to any MS exchange or even Linux server,
no problems there, the server will think it’s a PC, you can also boot
into Boot camp (if you install Windows there) and boot as a Real
Windows machine.

Q- The e-mail client with Mac, is it having the same functionality as
MS Outlook 2007 or 2003 is having or is it much better?

A- On the Mac we have “Mail” which I use and love, it is better and slicker looking then anything you might have seen, but if you still want Outlook you
can have Microsoft Entourage, it is the same as Outlook, but I think Microsoft called it Entourage because graphically it looks nicer then Outlook, if you search online you will even find ways to import all your Outlook information into Entourage. To sum up you can use Apple Mail, MS Entourage, or Mozilla Thunderbird, among other great mail clients on the Mac.

For any new switcher I would highly recommend listening to MyMac’s podcasts, since David Cohen has a great Fenestration segment that explains how to use a Mac in a Windows environment, and when it comes to that he is a guru.
