Ah, the news today is fantastic. Tad Scheeler of MyMac podcast fame (cat did math aka Tim, Chad, and Tad) sent me a most excellent link via Tim. It might seem odd that a member of cat did math is unaware of my e-mail address (I’m a show contributor after all) but in Tad’s case it is understandable. See Tad is one of those underground fighters. Basically he fights, bare knuckled, until one combatant quits or is, oft times, killed. It may seem like a lame rehash of Lionheart but Tad assures me it is not at all like that. The payouts are great for the winners though it is tough work. In any event Tad trains at such a pace that piddling things like email addys and such escape his notice. And yeah, when he does the podcast he just wings it, no show prep at all. For Tad a podcast is a thirty-two minute break in a brutal training regimen. Apparently he was coming off yet another victory last night and relaxing surfing the internet when he came across the greatest thing ever. With deep thanks to Tad I present:
I’m feeling a bit frustrated lately what with the drilling of the Alaskan Refuge, national ID cards and Kansas going creationist crazy. I could write a decent essay on each of the three issues but instead I’ll give my quick takes.
ANWAR Drilling:
The knee jerk reaction is that the “evil” oil companies will rape the environment to make a quick profit. An understandable reaction but not necessarily the case. There are ways to drill oil with minimal impact on the surroundings. That said one has to wonder about the near futility of the drilling. Oil and natural gas are going to run out someday aren’t we just pushing back the inevitable?
National ID cards:
I’ve have long been of the mind that we were surrendering our freedoms at an alarming rate. I think, for example, sobriety checkpoints are an invasion of my liberty. To wit: why is my travel impeded when I have done nothing wrong? Ah well it seems that the people who care are too scattered to matter. I will note that some folks are calling the whole national ID thing the mark of the beast (because, supposedly, you’ll need one for a bank account) to which I say: There ya go Christian Right, hope you’re happy. Of course blaming the Christian Right or “the government” is disingenuous, the citizenry as the whole puts up with this crap so I blame each and every American including myself.
Kansas going creationist crazy:
Yeah, evolution is just a theory. I’ll skip the part about how anyone who says “just a theory” is scientifically illiterate (which is no shame, we can’t all know about the philosophy of science) and simply note that when Intelligent Design actually makes predictions I’ll think of it as theory instead of a naked ploy to get religion in the classroom. Note to creationists Quantum Mechanics is more damaging to your cause than evolution,
I feel better. How about a game link?
