AFC East:
I called for the New England Patriots to win the Division. They did. I didn’t expect the New York Jets to make it to the playoffs. They did. I said that the Dolphins and the Bills would spend the post-season licking their wounds, they will.
AFC North:
I said that the battle for the division would be between the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals. Baltimore took it with ease and the Bengals managed to blow their only chance to go to the playoffs on the last day of the season by losing AT HOME to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have to feel pretty good about managing to go .500 after the absolute disaster of their early season efforts. Cleveland…well….it’s Cleveland. Browns fans are used to having the season end after 16 games. I said that Cincinnati would win the division and Baltimore would be a wild-card.
AFC South:
Who plays in the AFC South? After Indianapolis went 9-0 to start the season, it didn’t really matter. No one was going to catch them. Jacksonville and Tennessee made a valiant effort to make it to the next level, but 8-8 usually isn’t going to do it in this league. I called for Indianapolis to win the division. That sure was a reach.
AFC West:
I said that the AFC West was going to be the most exciting race and it was…kinda. San Diego just pulled away from Denver after they were both at 5-2 and Kansas City was one game back. All Denver had to do was beat the San Francisco 49ers at home and they were in. If Denver lost, then Kansas City was in. Denver had everything to play for and couldn’t get it done. Welcome to the post-season KC. OH, the Oakland Raiders also play in this division. They were….less than competitive. I said that San Diego would win the division and they did.
NFC East:
The New York Giants were looking to be a lock-in for the division. That was before they hit the wall and the Dallas Cowboys found their Juliet with Tony Romo. Considering how awful almost all these teams looked at times this season, it seems very odd that 3 out of 4 teams from this conference are in the playoffs. Only the Redskins aren’t going to the next level and rightfully so, they were pretty bad this year. I called for the Giants to win the division. Didn’t happen, it went to Philadelphia who I thought would also go nowhere.
NFC North:
Much like the AFC South, there wasn’t much doubt who the division winner was going to be. Chicago started the season by winning their first seven games before losing to Miami (WTF???). Green Bay, Minnesota, and Detroit managed to lose their way early enough to mostly be a non-factor. I called for Chicago to win their division. Way to go out on a limb Guy!
NFC South:
Probably the best story was the amazing resurgence of the New Orleans Saints after the devastation of the area because of Hurricane Katrina. Carolina and Atlanta had their chances but let it slip away. Here’s one I picked right, New Orleans winning their division.
NFC West:
When I wrote my article, Seattle and Saint Louis were tied at 4 and 3. I called for Seattle to take it and I was right. Wow! Impressive….OK, not so impressive.
Next is who I called to win their divisions and who actually won. This could get ugly.
AFC East
New England Patriots (They won)
AFC North
Cincinnati Bengals (They didn’t and aren’t going to the playoffs. Baltimore took it)
AFC South
Indianapolis Colts (They won, duh)
AFC West
San Diego Chargers (They won too. Hey, I’m not doing too bad)
AFC Wild Cards
Baltimore Ravens/ Denver Broncos (OK, here’s were I failed miserably. The actual wild-cards are the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs, neither of which I said would do much)
NFC East
New York Giants (Another loser pick here, Philly took it after I said they would be sitting on the sidelines)
NFC North
Chicago Bears (Back on the right pick bandwagon!)
NFC South
New Orleans Saints (More sensational picking. I am the pick-master)
NFC West
Seattle Seahawks (I am so impressed with the wonderfulness of me)
NFC Wildcards
Atlanta Falcons/ Carolina Panthers (OK, brought back to real world here. Neither team is going to the playoffs. It’s actually Dallas and New York)
We’ll see how well my last picks are later, but for those keeping scaore, here they are. Neither seems a real lock since they have closed out the season playing like crap.
AFC Champion
Indianapolis Colts
NFC Champions
Chicago Bears
Super Bowl Champions
Chicago Bears
