Gods Behaving Badly

There is probably zero chance I would have read Gods Behaving Badly if I were not sent a free copy. It’s simply not the sort of book I usually read. The title alone suggests, perhaps, some religious subject, of which I usually have zero interest in. Thankfully, I did read it. Let me tell you why.

First, Marie Phillips is a brilliant author. She writes in a very breezy, yet insightful, way. The prose flows from the pages without effort, as if this is not simply a story she is writing, but one that was always there and had to use her as an outlet to be let out into the world.

This is a story that some, mostly Christians, probably won’t enjoy as much as some others. Unless, of course, they read it with an open mind, wanting only to enjoy a good story by a masterful storyteller. If, however, they allow their Christian teachings to intrude upon the story, well…

In a way, this books reads like a Vertigo comic book. (Think: The Last Man, or Sandman) Honestly, I could see a comic starting shortly after the end of this book. And if you think that is some sort of disparagement, don’t. Marie Phillips has created a world here that I want to revisit with new stories. I want to see the changes in the world that come about because of what happens in these pages.

As a writer myself (nowhere near the same league as Marie) I am sure she is reading these early reviews. As such, let me say to her "Brilliant Job!" (And go to mymac.com and invite Tim Robertson, ME!, to read your blog!)

As a potential buyer of this book, your question is probably "Should I buy this? Will I enjoy it?" While I cannot possibly know your mind, I cannot imagine too many people NOT enjoying this book. It is clever, fun, and wonderful. I give it my highest recommendation.
