I happen to be a longtime Dreamweaver wrangler. That doesn’t mean I’m an expert, just someone who gets his hands dirty with the popular Web authoring app every day. I’ve had this software for several months but only just now finally installed the sucker. That’s how it is when you actually USE software for hours every day instead of just play with it. No time to upgrade, etc. etc. That, and I’m just lazy. It took being laid up recuperating from surgery to get me to dig out the CD and do what I should have done a long time ago.
Well, well, well.
Boy howdy, this is better.
My previous version of Dreamweaver simply could not handle FTP uploads with the antiquated original AirPort setup and OS X 10.3. For anyone who doesn’t know, there’s a horrible bug in that configuration that just kills FTP. It’s actually a “security” bug, kind of like everything else afflicting us today. At any rate, this version nails it, boom-boom-boom, as good or better than Transmit. Now that really is a surprise.
It’s faster throughout, too. And there’s a nifty tabbed window thingie that lets you toggle back and forth between files.
Tell you what: from just half an hour of my time using version 8, I feel like a complete idiot for not installing it sooner. C-O-M-P-L-E-T-E I-D-I-O-T. I’ll bet it works even better under OS X 10.4, but that’s another idiot’s tale.
Watch for the review, coming up soon.
