I’m always on the look out for little apps and utilities that save me time on the computer. So it was pretty nice to find Ambrosia Software’s one less click saving utility called Dragster. This little application enables you to transfer files on your Desktop or anywhere else in your Finder to a designated folder on your computer. So instead of opening up a Finder window and clicking and clicking to locate the folder where you want to drop a file, you simply drag that file to the Dragster icon in your dock, and a menu of destination folders will rise up in which you can easily drop a file into one of them. After the the drop–whoosh–the transfer takes place. Drag, drop, done.
You can also choose to just send a copy of the file to a designated folder. Equally as well, you can send mail attachments the same way.
If dragging and dropping is not your thing, you can also just right or control click on a file and you will get Dragster’s contextual menu of the same destination folders to send your files to.
And of course, you know you can create custom folders in this sucker. You can even create a custom shortcut to a particular email address(s) that you send attachments to on a regular basis.
Finally, if you’re wondering if this little baby would be useful for FTP transfers to your website or to another computer on your network, well you’d also be wondering correctly.
If all this sounds good to you, but you don’t want to pay the 19 bucks for the registration, you can pretty much create the same Dragster set up using Apple’s Automator. I’ve already created half a dozen automations that do pretty much what Dragster does, but it’s still nice to have all the destinations folders contained in one application. So in this regard, Dragster is the better one to go.
Ambrosia Software, by the way, is the same company that created the popular award winning application, Snapz Pro X.
