Chicago WINS THE SUPERBOWL! Or not…

OK, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. I suck at making predictions. All you people that had faith in me and my superior guessing skills and bet their homes on the outcome of the Superbowl are most likely a little peeved at me this morning. For those who did bet large sums of money on my predictions, what can I say except…

Suckers

You would actually assume that I had ANY insight over who would win the Superbowl? Me, with my favorite team being the Miami Dolphins who haven’t seen the inside of a legitimate playoff berth this century? What were you thinking of?

The game certainly had its moments. When Chicago ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown, I sat there oh so smugly thinking, “Oh yeah, can I call it or what?” Apparently “or what” is the theme for the day.

Chicago’s defense performed at its usual high level, only giving up a few big plays, though they never seemed to get to Peyton Manning, which was a big part of what they needed to do to win. Peyton picked them apart with short drop backs and fast little 5-10 yards completions that Chicago had no answer to.

Even with all that, they were still in the game going into the 4th quarter, except for one little thing. The absolute incompetance of Chicago’s offense and its lack of any consistancy in moving the ball. Every time they showed a spark of life, Rex Grossman would fumble or throw an interception or someone else on the team would manage to do something stupid and give Indianapolis excellent field position.

So ends another NFL season, not with a bang, but a windy city wimper. Of course the Pro Bowl is next week in Hawaii, but really, who cares? It’s just another way for the NFL to squeeze out one more game for the national TV audience who would watch their favorite team playing chess if they would air it on ESPN.

So we have some 7 months without NFL football. We will survive it of course. My predictions for next year? Oh, the Miami Dolphins will take it all! Right after monkeys fly out of my butt.
