LapWorks GripZilla Pro Handle and Tablet Handler Pro for 10 to 13-inch Tablets – Review

Remember when there was pretty much one size for a tablet computer? When Apple came out with the original iPad it was 9.7-inches and the follow up Android tablets were much the same when they were released. Then in a desperate attempt to distinguish themselves from all the other Android tablets (and the iPad), the other companies started making them in different sizes.

MindShift Gear BackLight 26L Photo Backpack – Review

bag exterior

The $250 MindShift BackLight 26L (the 26L stands for 26 liters of internal volume) is a medium-sized backpack designed for the outdoors photographer but can be very much at home with anyone who wants to carry a lot of photo gear on their back in a handsomely designed bag. It comes in both green and graphite colors; I chose to review the graphite colored one. The first thing I noticed is how light the MindShift BackLight 26L feels (just around 4lbs/1.8kg). I don’t like heavy camera bags for comfort reasons, and this case does not add much more weight to my already heavy camera kit.

Sibelius 8 – Review

Jean Sibelius, the 150th anniversary of whose birth we celebrate this year (he lived from 1865 to 1957), officially composed only seven symphonies. Certainly only seven were published. Yet fragments of an 8th do exist; and indeed were performed in 2011 barely three minutes long, though. Sibelius certainly withdrew and tried to suppress his 8th.

Wacom Cintiq 13HD Touch – Review

I have owned at least a half a dozen drawing tablets though the years. Most of them have been made by Wacom and I have enjoyed drawing with all of them. Each one was better than the next. I have even had drawing tablets in my classrooms (elementary through high school). They have been the best, and most affordable, option for drawing on my iMac and mimicking actual drawing on paper or painting on a canvas, until I was asked to review a Cintiq by Wacom.

BakBone Tablet Ring – Review

iPads and other tablets are rapidly becoming part of mobile data entry in industry, hospitals, construction, reporting, inventory management, and at home. Occam’s Razor is a 12th Century principle that states when solving problems, the solution with the fewest assumptions is often the best. So it is with the new BakBone tablet ring. A tablet is awkward to hold with one hand while you are working. BakBone provides a simple, effective solution.

Halfpack RT Combination Pack and Case – Review

The Xplorer Halfpack is a high quality backpack that can also be carried as a messenger bag or a briefcase. It’s spacious enough to be used by college students hauling books and electronic devices around, and stylishly casual enough to use for a daily commute to the office. I used it on two weekend trips and found it perfect for carrying a change of clothes, an iPad, an iPod, iPhone, toiletries, medicines, and magazines.

Kensington Virtuoso Touch Stylus & Pen – Review

This Virtuoso Touch Stylus and Pen from Kensington is comfortable to hold and seems precise when used with a smart phone or tablet screen. One end is a good stylus and the other end, covered by a cap with a chrome clip, is a ballpoint pen that takes Parker refills. If you want to use the pen, remove the cap and slide it over the stylus at the other end.

XO 7-inch Kids Tablet XO-780 by Vivitar – Review

Out of the box this tablet was very easy to set up. It took me less than 15 minutes to connect to the Internet and set up three user profiles on the tablet. Yes! The XO tablet allows up to three user profiles and one adult administrator account, which was perfect for me and my three daughters. The android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system was a breeze for me, a long time iPad user, to configure, and ever easier for the kids each to log into their own space.

There are three ways product reviewers respond to all the gadgets and gizmos we receive: dislike and send them back promptly, use them for a while but not long-term, or keep them forever even if it means parting with hardly-earned cash. The new and favorite items discussed below can be proud to be in the latter group.

ArtRage 4 – Review

ArtRage is a Macintosh painting and drawing application that allows you to apply paint or ink to virtual paper or canvas as naturally as you would to their real counterparts. Oil paints leave textural strokes, watercolors actually spread, marker ink bleeds into the paper, pallet knives smear, pastels are genuinely chalky.
