Branding & Naming in Other Industries

A very good way to calibrate what goes on in the
Macintosh community is to look at the activities in
other industries: automotive, beverages, travel, etc.

I was contacted by Jon Fredkove at a site that specializes in
strategic name development because they liked something I
wrote. In turn, I found their site equally interesting
because they look at things of interest to people who follow
Apple: branding, product naming, slogans, and so on.

Here’s a
blog discussion about
the general concept of “Free Prizes”. The Cracker Jack kind.
While Apple uses this idea within Mac OS X, they have only very
recently figured out how to put Mac OS X in perspective as a
prize within a Macintosh with the Get-a-Mac TV ads. Seeing what other
industries do adds perspective.

The main site is here.
Seems like a good reference if you’re starting your own
company or writing about Apple, marketing, and branding.
