Bootcamp: XP to Vista

Google has failed me. It was an eye opening experience to NOT be able to find an answer to a tech question, but maybe I’m trying too hard. I currently have XP SP3 running on my iMac 2.16GHz C2D via Bootcamp. I mostly use it for games or for trying out Windows alternatives to Mac programs. OK…mostly for games. There are a lot of Vista only programs I’d like to try (like Halo 2 for example) that cannot run under XP so I’m considering getting the Vista Home Premium upgrade. Here’s the issue:

Apple’s Bootcamp when installed has lots of drivers made specifically by Apple to run Windows on Mac hardware. These drivers would probably be replaced by Microsoft ones during the upgrade and I’m not sure how that would affect Bootcamp. I don’t want to spend $129 only to find out that I can’t run Windows at all afterwards. I suppose I could wipe the partition and just install Vista in a new Bootcamp partition, but would I have to buy the full version and also I don’t want to spend a lot of time re-installing everything I have so far.

Ideas?
