Big SMALL announcements from Apple this summer?

Several months ago I predicted Apple was going to announce a new “nano” series of ultra-compact products at the 2009 Macworld Expo. I was wrong.

Last weekend, I overheard two guys at a party discussing the 2009 summer-fall-winter cycles of major announcements from Apple and other tech companies. One of these fellows seemed to know what he was talking about.

He said a new, small, non-AT&T iPhone will be on sale this summer, probably during or soon after Apple’s June Worldwide Developers Conference. This $99 iPhone nano, or similar name, will open the iPhone market to consumers who didn’t embrace the original iPhone’s size, price, or network restrictions. He said hundreds of thousands of units are now in production.

Then he said that Christmas, 2009, is the “season of the netbook,” and Apple will introduce an ultra-compact laptop computer for end-year sales. This nanoBook, or similar name, will use touch-screen technology instead of a pipsqueak keyboard. He had no idea of its price or size.

This is my personal prediction. MyMac is not a rumor site. What do you think will be released during the rest of 2009?
