Pogue Press and O’Reilly continue to add new books to the Missing Manual series. As MyMac.com readers know, I’ve been a longtime critic of the software publishers failing to include adequate documentation with their products. This failing is what gave life to the Missing Manual series.

The trend towards reduced documentation, especially at Apple, continues unabated. And programmer ingenuity continues to increase, with more and more features being added with each software update. Couple these two trends together, and we have today’s situation where many powerful features of software applications are hidden away, lurking behind the Option or Command keys, or buried in an obscure preference setting.

Iomega eGo 250 GB Portable Hard Drive, FireWire 400 – Review
Iomega’s new eGO line of portable hard drives comes in colors, and I mean colors. The review drive I’ve been using for a while is red, Red, RED! My techno-wife especially approved, as the red color matches her favorite toenail polish. If red’s not your fav shade, the Firewire-only eGO drives come in black and white, as well. If you crave more color choices, the USB versions come in a high fashion palette of red, black, blue, pink, and silver.

Review
With the inexorable drops in price for all iPod models, they’ve certainly become ubiquitous. But have they become disposable? What if the battery gives out? What if it won’t start up? Toss it, or fix it? Jones and Campbell may have the answer. iPod Repair QuickSteps is a wide-format book of text and photos that leads you through most any iPod repair.
The Macintosh iLife 08
One thing is certain about Apple: each revision of their iApps (iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie, iDVD, and GarageBand) brings new features and new frustrations. It’s also a certainty that author Jim Heid will write a new edition of The Macintosh iLife to help Mac users learn what’s new with the iApps, ho

Take Control of Easy Backups in Leopard
Review II
Same book, new review. David Weeks, like Russ a month ago, takes a look at Joe Kissell’s latest. Joe has been a mainstay of the TidBITS writing staff for years. He’s authored excellent books on various Tiger and Leopard topics. One of my Kissell favorites is Take Control of Mac OS X Backups, 2nd Edition.
The Book of Wireless, 2nd Edition
According to the back cover, John Ross’ The Book of Wireless, 2nd Edition is targeted at readers who want a broad overview of the whys, wherefores, and hows of wireless networking. If you can stay with it, the later chapters have some useful information, especially on antenna configuration. Ross’s Chapter 12 discussion of Wi Fi security and packet sniffing was quite good; it was useful information.
Skullcandy FMJ iPhone earbuds and microphone – Review
Skullcandy; now there’s a naming success. Skullcandy’s a little company that markets a wide selection of headphones, earbuds, and accessories. I’ve never had any trouble remembering this firm’s name! Skullcandy’s target audience is the skater/hiphop crowd, but don’t let that (or their too-cool-for-school website design) drive you away, even if you lean more to the fuddy-duddy side of the spectrum.
PRIMA SELECT Premium Leather iPhone Flip Case – Review
The Weeks Division of MyMac Labs get plenty of iPhone cases to review. Some are better than others. Unfortunately, Prima’s Premium Leather Flip case does not fall into the "better than others" category. While our review case was nicely made of leather, with several slots for credit cards or licenses, Prime seems to have not understood what makes a useful iPhone case.
