Well, I made it to San Francisco! And I am not dead! (Always a good thing)
Woke up early, did not sleep well. Then, around 5AM, I hear a knock on the door. Some kids (12, 13 maybe) is standing there, someone I have never met, asking if he can come in. I said no, I don’t know you and you are too young. I told him to go home. (well fed, well dressed kid.) He said he did not have a home, and then walked down the street.
It was very strange.
So of course I could not get back to sleep after that.
My wife and kids pilled into the car and headed to Grand Rapids for my flight to Detroit. The weather was quite bad, and it took longer that it should have. The roads were all slush. And then IT happened!
The car seemed to grab a big pile of slush, and tried to fling me off the road. Almost gave me a heart attack! But superior driving skills allowed me to rescue what was almost a very bad accident. Putting aside any modesty (HA!) it really was a great bit of driving. We were THIS close…
The flight from Grand Rapids to Detroit was uneventful. But here is a picture from my seat.
The flight was Detroit to San Francisco took a half-hour LESS than it was suppose to. (Never had THAT happen before!) Luggage also made the same trip with me, so that was better than last year when my bags decided they wanted to arrive two hours later.
Podcast listener Beejay from the U.K. had flown in the day before, and actually rented a car (crappy Pontiac). He picked me up at the airport and drove me back to the hotel, thus saving me around $50! What a great guy! Here is a (bad) picture of Beejay taken on the iPhone while he was driving. I promise he had his eyes open most of the time behind the wheel!
Later, Beejay and I also picked up Larry Grinnell, who sat in the back of the tiny Pontiac. Here is Larry (taken on the iPhone.)
So now I sit in my hotel room (The Holiday Inn Civic Center) waiting to go to diner. Here is a list of the Mac users who are or may eat with us tonight:
Guy Serle
Larry
David Cohen and brother
Dan Robinson (who I met for the first time earlier today, and is staying four floors up!)
Beejay and his friend
Rick Stringer and son
And possibly Adam Karneboge, one time MyMac.com webmaster!
I will be sure to take some pictures and get them posted tonight or early tomorrow!
