MacBook Pro dead keyboard+trackpad fix

Problem: Keyboard and trackpad on MacBook Pro don’t work, but external Bluetooth keyboard and USB mouse do.

Solution: Call AppleCare and learn about resetting the SMU. “The SMU (System Management Unit) is a microcontroller chip on the logic board that controls all power functions for your computer.”

Action: Shut down MacBook Pro. Disconnect all cables and ports. Close the lid tight. Turn over computer so it’s upside down in your lap or on a table. Pull both battery release tabs and remove battery. Place battery safely on the table. Turn computer right side up, and open the lid. Press the power button (YES with no battery inserted!) and hold it for five seconds. Shut lid and flip over computer again. Carefully snap battery back into position. Restart computer and problem is solved.

Thought: How weird, but it works.
