Leave my preferences alone

After updating to Mac OS X 10.3.9, I noticed something I did not like very much. Bookmarks added to my web browser, Safari. Bookmarks for Apple, .Mac, Ebay, and Yahoo! were all added to my bookmark bar.

Who told Apple they could do that? There was not word one in the licensing agreement I clicked when upgrading to 10.3.9 that stated that I wanted or allowed Apple to add bookmarks to my web browser. Not one word, and I did go back and check. So they did it without my permission, adding four bookmarks.

So what’s the big deal, I hear some of you asking. Why get my panties in a bunch over something as simple as this? I will tell you, because I don’t like it one bit, and I see it as Apple forcing something on me without my permission. But if this were a simple, one-time thing, I would have no problem. But read this blog from Chris Seibold, and you will see a disturbing trend from Apple.

I don’t mind if I download a new browser and have it come preloaded with bookmarks. I do have a problem with any company who decides to dump bookmarks into my browser without my permission. This is MY browser and preferences, not Apple’s, and I don’t appreciate it one bit.

Stay out of my preferences, Apple. There are other web browsers out there, free of charge, that have better and more features than Safari does. I will be happy to use one of those if you pull this kind of crap again.
