Big Doings at FarrSound
Oh, I’ve been busy playing with the audio apps for OS X …
This is a very special treat. A couple of years before the above photo was taken, I played rhythm guitar with these guys. Songwriter, banjo picker, and singer John Clay (far right) is one of the world’s true original artists and the last time I’d heard from him was back in ’74. I had some old gig tapes from ’72-74 and wondered about converting them to MP3s. Through circumstances more miraculous than anything else, I contacted Leo Sullivan, Lost Austin Band manager, after a communication hiatus of nearly 30 years. Then on 4-10-04, a mysterious email arrived … from John Clay!
“Dear John Oh how I hate to write/ ta don ta don ta don/ but I must let you know tonight… Put the songs on the net. ‘Cast your bread upon the waters and it will come back cake.’ Yours truly, John Clay”
So over the next few weeks, I’ll be posting the best examples of what I have on tape. Please note that I get nothing from this and neither does John, obviously, if the downloads are free. But the man says “it will come back cake,” and that’s good enough for me. Have a business proposition for John Clay? I’ll put you in touch. In the meantime, here’s one of the Lost Austin Band’s oldest signature songs to start you off. If you don’t know the artist, this will take a little getting used to, but hang in there: I wouldn’t do this if it weren’t really worth it, and there’s more to come.
