Last August, I posted five Apple Mail rules that some readers found useful. Here are some more rules you might try. You of course, create Mail rules by clicking on Mail>Preferences>Rules. If you have the email that you want to make the rule for selected, the sender or subject information will appear in the new rule. From there you can make changes.

Definitely getting rid of old messages cleans up clutter. You can set the number to whatever suits you.
Make a smart mail boxes for each of your current clients or important contacts. You don’t have to open up Mail Preferences do this. In the sender’s message, right/control click on his/her email address, and then select Create Smart Mailbox from the drop down menu. Set rule from there.
Get those web site and discussion thread messages into the trash. If you have a rule that displays all your Today’s messages, you can still read deleted messages based on the rule.
When you flag a message as junk, this rule will send it to the trash immediately. A must have rule to keep Mail less cluttered.
Put your Mac to sleep by sending it a sleeper message. This is not a email clutter rule, but just thought I’d thought I stick it here because it’s so cool. You can find out more about here.
After creating these rules, click on your Inbox and examine other types of messages you receive that could be set for clean-up rules.
