33 Days to Macworld 2006

On Monday, January 9th, David Weeks and I will fly from Tucson to San Francisco, and go immediately to Moscone Center for media registration and sneak preview meetings with a few premium product vendors. The buzz will be starting to ascend, in anticipation of Apple’s major announcements on Tuesday morning. That’s when we’ll meet our MyMac.com colleagues, including Owen, Roger, Bakari, and David Every (we hope — anybody else from the staff coming too?).

Once the Expo showroom floor opens, after Steve Jobs’ keynote presentation, we’ll each begin our scheduled appointments and informal drop in visits to the 200+ booths in the exhibition area. The scene will be loud, hectic, and kinetic from then until 4:00 p.m. closing on Friday afternoon, January 13th.

My personal goal during the week is to spend time with as many new and seasoned companies as possible, with an emphasis on computer hardware, accessories, and software. I’ll leave the coverage of games and iPodware to other reporters.

That’s right: Nemo’s not going to concentrate on iPod gear this year. Why not? Because every other reporter, editor, podcaster, and blogger will be crawling over one another to scoop the iPod poop.

MyMac.com makes its biggest splash during Macworld SF week, and my contribution, with support from Tim and our colleagues, is to provide personalized coverage of items and trends that are perhaps out of the limelight, but in great demand by the tens of millions of Macintoshers worldwide.

That’s my goal, and that’s our strength as a publication. Check back for commentary, photos, and podcasts next month, and we’ll see if I am true to my objective, or if the call of the mighty iPod is irresistible.
