Since the original iPad Pro is so large, I have been using a portfolio style case similar to a laptop case to lug around my personal device. After reviewing this OtterBox case I may change my mind. This new OtterBox Symmetry Series Hybrid Vital Protection iPad Pro Case offers very good front, back, and side protection to the full size 12.9-inch iPad Pro and is still slim and reasonably light in weight. Let’s look closer at what this case is all about.

The folio cover, when attached, provides excellent screen protection. You can also see where the Apple Pencil can be stored on the side of the case.

The interior surface is a soft, felt-like material that provides very good scratch resistance.

The sides of the case are tough rubbery material that securely holds the iPad in place. Openings are provided for the four audio speakers, ear buds, Lightning charging cable, and microphone. The power switch and volume control switches have built in extensions allowing easy access by the user.

The cover supports the auto sleep/wake function and folds to provide the user with a multi-position stand.

The folio cover is removable to allow access to the Smart Connector and keyboards and stands that use this connector.

I had to wrestle a bit with both installing and removing the case because it is precisely made to fit and protect the iPad Pro. The OtterBox Symmetry Series Hybrid Vital Protection iPad Pro Case is advertised to provide drop protection (24+ tests and 238+ hours of testing) but I am not going to do any intentional drop tests of my own to verify this. Otter box has a long standing reputation for doing a fine job with their internal testing.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the review, the OtterBox Symmetry Series Hybrid Vital Protection iPad Pro Case has an external strap to hold the Apple Pencil snugly in a depression on the case side. This is convenient but offers a limited protection for your $100 device. With the ultra slim design of this case there is probably not much more that could have been done.

I find the OtterBox Symmetry Series Hybrid Vital Protection iPad Pro Case to be very well made, works as advertised, and provides a conveniently slim and light weight case for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The price is is on the high end, but you get what you pay for. I give this case a MyMac 10 out of 10.
