Our first morning of the show has been and gone in a whirlwind of queues, booths and product demos.
Tim was up early and rousing the troops (i.e. me) because he was bored and hungry! A traditional Mel’s Diner breakfast would have formed a good Geekiest Show Ever podcast if we’d had a recorder running – zombies, Firefly and Guy’s frequent Monty Python references dominated the conversation.
Then, over to Moscone North to get set up in the media room and line up for the entertaining David Pogue keynote. Mark Rudd got some great pictures of the shenanigans on the stage, and you’ll find those posted by him later today.
Guy and I then hit the show floor and started shooting video of the more interesting products. We needed to be quick, because our video is going to IDG so that it will appear in the general Macworld TV channel that is showing on screens all round the Expo.
We did find Owen Rubin on our travels, and it was good to catch up with him – we’ll be talking to him on a “Macworld Impressions” podcast tomorrow. And on that topic, wow the show is busy! They were queuing out the door upstairs at lunch time for both pre-registered and walk-up register passes, and the show floor was completely mobbed. I would say that the quality level is up from my last experience here – much of the stuff on display has a high level of innovation and flair, and we’ll be posting video and audio interviews with product vendors where we find anything out of the ordinary.
We’re getting ready to get set up for the live podcast now, and we’ll look to post that as soon as we can get the post-production done….
