New Apple Gear
Apple’s Show Time! event kicked off today with Steve Jobs unveiling both updates to the iPod and iPod Nano, a new version of iTunes (version 7), Movies to buy in the iTMS, and the iTV, the long-rumored set-top box to bring your digital content into the living room.
While the iTV is not the final name of the devise, it does look like a thinner Mac Mini, and sports a built-in power supply (good news, no huge power brick like on the XBOX 360!), USB, Enternet, 802.11 (G, H, X??) Optical Audio and RCA out, HDMI ports, and works with the Apple Remote.
Price? $299! GREAT price! Works with both the Mac and PC. People can hear Microsoft’s Media Center department saying “Oh, crap!”
Movie quality of almost DVD quality. Apple says tha thte video access is instantaneous. THe proof will be in the pudding, as the saying goes.
The iPod Nano now comes in multiple colors, including a new Silver, black, Green, Blue, and Pink. Did I miss any? They are also from 48GB in size, and prices range form $149-249.
The full-size iPod goes up to 80GB and costs $349! Yow!
iTunes 7 can be downloaded today! It sports the ability to download cover art for your music that does not have any. Sweet!
Movies in the iTMS will cost $9.99, new shows will be $12.99 is pre-ordered and the first week, then $14.99. Content for that iTV!
TV shows, and movies, are now encoded at 640X480 in h264. Should look much better than the current (and crappy) 320X240.
You can now buy video games for your iPod for $4.99, including Pac Man, Beheweled, Cubis 2, Mahjong, and others. Yippie.
Cool news all around! I will post pictures once the Apple Store has them online.
