I found this to be a very, very entertaining CD. The graphics are good and Tim Currey, as Dr. Frankenstein, is excellent! He plays the off-kilter mad scientist perfectly. You just never know when he is going to pop up and threaten you, and if you’re not careful, kill you!

You, as the player, are the monster. You wake up in Frankenstein’s laboratory, to his smiling and slightly lunatic face. The good doctor explains that he, through his genius, brought you back to life! You are horrified! You’ve seen some of his handiwork on your body…and you’re not liking it.

You determine to stop Dr. Frankenstein no matter the cost. As you prowl the castle, you stumble across more of his secrets. These include not only the process of bringing the dead back to life, but other terrible and evil deeds he has committed. It gets worse: you discover the mad doctor had a hand in your daughter’s disappearance! You now must try to save your beloved daughter, Gabrielle, while stopping him.

Along the way you make friends with a talking dismembered hand, discover a beautiful woman, are chased by the doctor’s henchmen… well, I don’t want to give away too much of the story!

I haven’t completed the game yet. I’m “stuck” at one of the more boring parts-the creation of a gem which the doctor uses in his experiments. This is one area I believe that MacPlay could have done a better job. It takes entirely too long and destroys the flow of the game. It’s also not something that you can bypass. The successful completion of this section is critical to reaching your goals. Even using a cheat book (yes, I have one!) does nothing to speed it up or help you fix it if something has gone wrong.

I do recommend using a cheat book. The one I have, Frankenstein: Through The Eyes of the Monster: The Official Strategy Guide, is very good. It’s written by Joe Grant Bell, published by Prima’s Secrets of the Games and can be found at your local bookstores like Barnes & Noble. It contains three different ways you can complete the game, dependent on your personal preferences. Estimated price: $15.00.

Bottom Line:
If you think you can manage the boring section, I highly recommend it. Tim Currey is a fantastic Dr. Frankenstein ( and reminiscent of Dr. Frank N. Furter!). I found the story line attention getting, the puzzles challenging, and the graphics excellent.
